Take a look at our projects, news & images
from our recent work.
At a well-known bakery in George, Western Cape, Jaclin Engineering was contracted to upgrade
the heating and humidity system of their baking proofer. The old system used electric heating,
with very little air circulation, resulting in capacity and bread quality problems.
Jaclin Engineering designed and built and installed a complete steam heating system comprising
of two pressure reducing stations, complete stainless steel ducting system with circulation fan,
heat exchanger and steam reticulation system from the client’s new boiler.
The result was massively increased baking capacity, efficiency, quality of bread and significant
energy savings. The full upgrade was installed it all during a planned shut, causing no downtime
for the Bakery.
At a well-known animal feeds manufacturer in Paarl, Cape Town, Jaclin Engineering installed the steam supply and control station to their new state-of-the-art conditioning system on one of their pelleters.
At a well-known breakfast cereal manufacturer in Atlantis, Jaclin Engineering designed and installed a new paraffin ring-main system for their new boiler. Our scope included a full ring-main with new pumps with spark-proof motors, valves and filters.
At an upmarket brand clothing manufacturer in Atlantis, Jaclin Engineering pointed out a potential
catastrophe during a routine steam system audit. Their main steam and condensate lines of ±60m in
length, which are suspended on poles above the ground was close to collapsing due to poor design,
lack of allowance for expansion and water hammer.
Jaclin Engineering firstly propped up the pole supports to prevent them from further collapse.
We then cast new concrete bases into the ground with new pole stubs. Over the Easter weekend
shut of the factory, the distorted steam and condensate lines were removed from the poles, poles
were cut off and fitted into the new bases, and the steam and condensate lines replaced.
New pockets and flexible hoses were added for drainage and expansion. All of this remedial
action was carried out without any lost time to the business.
At a well-known bakery in Salt River, Cape Town, an existing stainless steel chimney on one of their ovens cracked and kinked on its 45⁰ bend and fell over due to high winds and broken guy ropes. Jaclin Engineering pre-fabricated a new flanged stainless steel bend section, removed the damaged chimney by means of a mobile crane, repaired it and re-installed it all during an 8-hour planned shut of the baking line, causing no downtime for the Bakery.

At a well-known food manufacturer in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, Jaclin Engineering corrected a
fundamental problem with the pipe sizing between the compressors, filters, dryer and air receiver.
The client had sufficient compressor capacity installed, but due to incorrect pipe sizing in the
compressor station, there was an air volume shortage in the plant where the retorts were installed –
fed by a line of ± 300m in length. By simply upsizing the pipework and header in the compressor room,
the problem was solved and the VSD controlled compressor now runs at a noticeably lower speed, which
results in an electrical power saving.

At a well-known pet food manufacturer in Atlantis, Cape Town, Jaclin Engineering designed and implemented
an improvement to the existing cooling water system. Originally the retort cooling water circuit was
in series with the cooling tower water circuit.
After adding an additional retort, and during warm ambient temperatures, the client struggled to cool
down the retorts and reduce the temperature of the water in the bulk tank, resulting in slower batch
cooling times on the retorts.
We designed and implemented a separate cooling tower water circuit with its own dedicated pump. This
resulted in the cooling water circuit to the retorts to become a separate circuit and the contents of
the bulk water tank is now cooled constantly by the dedicated circuit to the cooling towers.
This simple improvement resulted in far better batch times and improved efficiency on retort production.
A well-known potato chip manufacturer in Lamberts Bay, West Coast needed to recover and recycle
the huge volume of warm rinse-water from their process. Jaclin Engineering designed, supplied
and installed a complete warm water reclamation plant which enabled them to re-use their
